When I began to search for an outlet to be proactive in the fight against cancer, I explored several options, but none seemed to offer the kind of involvement I was looking for. There are hundreds of groups and organizations that benefit cancer, but I found very few that harness the energy and desire of young people who want to do more than volunteer a few hours or write a check. YTAC is designed to reach out to all young people who want to be more active in fighting all kinds of cancers. There are obvious limitations to targeting young people in terms of time and resources, but YTAC is set up to be more of a grassroots organization whose success depends on size and motivation. YTAC is run 100% by its members, a group of highly motivated young professionals, who are committed to raising money to fight the many kinds of cancer that have affected their loved ones.

My husband, Cody, and I got a chance to work with YTAC when we were deciding who the beneficiary of our annual SeaBreeze Golf Tournament should be. For our first year we had no idea how much to expect to be able to donate and they said they would be happy with any amount. Luckily, we raised $4,000! After getting to know the board and learning about the cause it only seemed natural to get more involved. We both became board members. Last year we doubled our donations from the tournament, all happily donated to YTAC. It is such a great organization and we have really enjoyed doing what we can to help out in the Austin community and look forward to continuing our efforts.

“No one has ever become poor by giving” – Anne Frank.
It became apparent to me in 2009 that I needed to be a more giving person. I decided I needed to get involved with a charity and YTAC was and continues to be the perfect fit for me! YTAC has provided me an outlet for me to give – both with my time and energy. It’s unfortunate that cancer strikes close to home for so many of us. After seeing both my mother and a close friend & college roommate survive cancer I knew that cancer was something that would always be a part of my life. It’s extremely rewarding to know that YTAC Austin is making a difference to local groups that are helping to fight cancer.

My sister was one of the founders of YTAC Houston. When she called me & told me that YTAC was building an Austin chapter, I knew I wanted to help it get started. My brother died of Leukemia when he was 12 years old & a few friends & relatives also lost their battle with cancer over the years. I am thankful that I also have friends who’ve won that battle & are in remission today! YTAC is a powerful tool to get people more informed & involved in the cancer community in Austin. We are at a fun age & need to take advantage of it! 🙂

Watching a loved one fight cancer is one of the hardest things in life. The only part you can control is providing support and love for those battling the illness. YTAC is a way young professionals can show support for those fighting for their lives. It is important to me that we all get involved in the fight against cancer because we can be the generation that makes the difference and finds a cure.

Being an Austin native, I was searching for a way to give back to my community. YTAC seemed like the perfect fit – a local charity raising money to help fight the cancer battle. I had been extremely fortunate that the disease had not directly affected my family, until this year (2011), when my grandmother was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. Only now, do I fully understand the emotions that families go through when a loved one is diagnosed, and I couldn’t feel stronger about fighting the disease. I am proud to be a member of YTAC and hope that the organization continues to grow and raise money and awareness to bring to an end the terrible disease of cancer.

Being a native Austinite, and having a mom that was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, YTAC seemed like the perfect outlet for me to join the fight against cancer. Unfortunately, few people can say that they have not been directly affected by cancer. YTAC allows for a dedicated group of young adults to join together & make a difference in this battle – right here in their own backyards – with beneficiaries often being of the same age & from the same area as the TYAC members themselves. My mom recently celebrated her 10 year anniversary of being cancer free & I hope, that through YTAC, I can help others to one day achieve that very same goal.

Too many family members and friends have been affected by cancer that I want to be engaged in an organization of young adults who are proactive in the fight against cancer.
